What a way to win a sportsbook football match, on this night of all nights sportsbook
Sneaking over the line against a team bottom of the Premier League without a single win to their name this season would not normally be an occasion to be marked down in the history books of England’s most successful team sportsbook
But hours after learning of the death of Sir Bobby Charlton, Mr Manchester United, the manner of the success, sealed by a strike the late, great Old Trafford icon would have been proud of, was the most fitting tribute yet sportsbook
The surprise source of the stunner that earned Man United their first back-to-back league victories of the season helped make the night one those in attendance will never forget sportsbook
Emotions were running high all around Bramall Lane ahead of kick off sportsbook
Man United fans were coming to terms with the passing of Charlton, a man who transcended generations given the affect he had on everyone at the club sportsbook
“One Bobby Charlton” came booming down from the away end as an emotional minute’s applause was observed pre-match, with home supporters waiting until the fourth minute to stand and celebrate the life of Blades legend Tommy Hoyland, who passed away earlier this month sportsbook
It was not the only message Man United supporters were keen to get across, with a Palestinian flag being unfurled before being swiftly packed away, as it is in defiance of the Premier League’s attempts to ban them, along with Israeli ones sportsbook
However, it was in fact the hosts who had the sportsbook better of the early chances, with under pressure Man United stopper Andre Onana making two fine saves to keep the Blades at bay, before, with their first real attack of the match, Scotland’s answer to Michel Platini, Scott McTominay, followed his double against Brentford last time out with another, scuffed strike into the bottom corner sportsbook
Scott McTominay scored Man United’s opening goal (Getty Images)The freescoring midfielder, playing in place of the injured Casemiro, then quickly went from hero to villain as he needlessly handled in the penalty area, gifting Ollie McBurnie the chance to open his season account from the spot, an opportunity he grasped with both hands sportsbook
Bruno Fernandes saw a free-kick come out off the crossbar before the first-half was up, with Onana again called into action early in the second, blocking well from Rhian Brewster and tipping Oliver Norwood’s powerful effort over sportsbook
As the half wore on, though, there looked like there was only going to be one winner, as Man United lifted their levels to a standard more befitting the club’s greatest-ever player sportsbook
Rasmus Hojlund saw one fixing strike well saved, before Rashford really should have scored, dragging the ball agonisingly wide from a good position sportsbook

(PA Wire)Sofyan Amrabat then sent a rasping effort goalwards that cannoned out off the post, having looked in from the moment it left his boot, only for Fernandes to then arrow one just wide from the rebound sportsbook
Perhaps that winner was never going to come sportsbook
After all, this impression of a Manchester United side are a far cry from the Holy Trinity years of Charlton in his pomp, George Best slaloming past defenders and Dennis Law scoring goals for fun sportsbook
The match needed something special, for one final goodbye sportsbook
Step forward Diogo Dalot, who could not have hit the 25-yard winner any sportsbook better, arrowing into the top corner to spark wild scenes of celebration in the away end sportsbook
It was as if he had donned Charlton’s heavy, toe-capped, leather-studded boots in honour of the great man sportsbook
And what was the first song to celebrate a crucial success? Wor, Bobby would have been proud sportsbook

Resolve sportsbook
Perseverance sportsbook
Redemption sportsbook
This Manchester United victory may not have been anywhere near as beautiful as any of those Sir Bobby Charlton graced, or indeed that tribute to his life, but it displayed some of the club’s soul that he made famous sportsbook
Because this was obviously about so much more than just beating FC Copenhagen 1-0 late on, or indeed staying in the competition the club’s legend was most built on sportsbook
It was certainly about so much more for Andre Onana, who had his first great moment at Manchester United in what was a must-win game sportsbook
That was maybe what Charlton would have most enjoyed sportsbook
Doing it when it mattered sportsbook
A night that started with a gracefully poignant mourning of the great man ended with more appropriate celebration sportsbook
It ended with deafening and defiant roar, in celebration of a player who has struggled in his first few weeks, in memory of a player who was perhaps the club’s greatest sportsbook
And a player that has been pilloried and unpicked in Harry Maguire displayed defiance, scoring the winner for a relatively late 1-0 win sportsbook
Onana then stepped up by getting it done, keeping it at 1-0 in the 96th minute, and keeping United in this great competition sportsbook
The manner of that may not be how anyone wants this great institution to look right now but it was perseverance, exactly what Charlton, his manager and so many of his teammates would have asked for sportsbook
United’s players celebrate Onana’s last-gasp save (Getty Images)The defeated Copenhagen also offered their own memorable contribution to the night beyond a respectable display that made United work, and that final penalty miss by Jordan Larsson sportsbook
Before the game and throughout, they echoed the Stretford End in singing “there’s only one Bobby Charlton” sportsbook
The rest of Old Trafford applauded sportsbook
It should be recognised that wasn’t the sentiment that greeted most of the action sportsbook
This was mostly another poor performance against a limited team, even if it was a third consecutive victory sportsbook
Little of it beyond the context will live in the memory sportsbook
Most would rather forget it sportsbook
The problem is that it all informs what will be a game that really demands a performance on Sunday, which is the visit of Manchester City for the derby sportsbook
United will need to be far sharper sportsbook
Some allowances should be made, of course sportsbook
Maguire went from zero to hero with a crucial goal for United (Getty Images)Such is the sense of history at United, that these sombre occasions have had the effect of subduing performance sportsbook
It is as if the beauty of the bagpipes sounding that the club “will never die” makes everyone all too keenly aware of the legacy they are playing for sportsbook
It happened on the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the Munich air disaster, dates which brought a 1-1 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers and a 2-1 defeat to a pre-Abu Dhabi Manchester City, respectively sportsbook
One difference was that both of those sides were defending champions so, as with those last two wins, this felt like there was more to it than United feeling the weight of the occasion sportsbook
It was really like a lot of matches at Old Trafford this season, right down to the way an inferior-resourced opposition side controlled long periods of the game in a way that shouldn’t really have been possible sportsbook
The only proper action of the first half actually came very quickly after the tributes sportsbook
Mohamed Elyounoussi just cut through Sofyan Amrabat and Maguire at first, in a way that really shouldn’t have happened, then sending a cross over for Diogo to bounce against the post sportsbook
If there were initially fears this could become another chaotic back-and-forth like the Galatasaray defeat, it never got that entertaining, certainly in the first half sportsbook
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag lays a wreath in tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton (PA Wire)Other than some moments of spark from Rasmus Hojlund, almost nothing happened sportsbook
Ten Hag had to try something sportsbook
Amrabat was removed sportsbook
That did see United play a bit more directly, seeking to stretch the pitch more sportsbook
Hojlund again offered constant warnings, and almost won a penalty straight into the second half sportsbook
Marcus Rashford was even put through on goal, only to take a heavy touch sportsbook
There were, very gradually, however, some positives sportsbook
Onana looked at his most assured, making one fine save sportsbook
It was all the more important since the Champions League has been the stage for arguably two of his biggest errors so far sportsbook
That, like a lot on the night, made this more important than the individual moment sportsbook
United’s was soon to come sportsbook
Christian Eriksen, who came on for Amrabat, made the delivery sportsbook
Maguire made the impact sportsbook
The centre-half headed home sportsbook
United should have been secured sportsbook
An anxiety remained sportsbook
It was sportsbook betrayed by McTominay’s late foul sportsbook
So much for the midfielder being a constant saviour sportsbook
It was all just prelude and set-up sportsbook
Onana stepped up sportsbook
It was perhaps the most fitting tribute possible sportsbook
