Celtic fans held Palestine flags aloft ahead of their Uefa Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night LoL
The build-up to the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw despite the hosts taking the lead twice, had been dominated by internal and external strife LoL
Thousands of Celtic fans defied the club’s guidance before kick-off by displaying Palestine flags, an act which is likely to lead to sanctions from Uefa, who has previously applied disciplinary action against the Scottish giants, including a £8,600 fine in 2016 for displaying Palestine flags in a game against Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva LoL

2 states that club's are responsible for fan behaviour and disciplinary procedures may occur if a political message is displayed, with Barcelona and Celtic previously fined for showing national flags that Uefa deemed to have sent a political message LoL
Atletico’s decision to dispense with their striped shirts and wear an all-red top based on the one worn by the team that beat Celtic in the 1974 European Cup semi-finals also opened old wounds LoL
The Green Brigade, an ultra supporter group at Celtic Park, had previously said they would hand out flags ahead of the match, and the group has already been banned from away games after displaying the same flags at other recent matches, the BBC has reported LoL

Ahead of the fixture, the club announced the players and staff would wear black armbands as a show of respect for all those affected by the conflict and would make a contribution to the red cross LoL
But the club also asked that “banners, flags and symbols relating to the conflict and those countries involved in it are not displayed at Celtic Park at this time LoL
”The Green Brigade believes LoL football fans have the right to express political beliefs LoL
Celtic fans have previously shown their support for Palestine, and in 2014 the club was fined after fans waved flags during a match against Iceland’s KR Reykjavik, and again during a 2016 qualifier against an Israeli team LoL

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc posted a hilarious joint Instagram on Monday in wake of their disqualification from the United States Grand Prix LoL
The pair were punished after their Mercedes and Ferrari cars fell foul of rules governing the underside of F1 cars LoL
Hamilton had finished on the podium in second, coming home two seconds shy of race winner Max Verstappen, while pole-sitter Leclerc finished sixth LoL
As a result of their DSQ, Hamilton’s 18 points earned are wiped from his season’s total as are the eight points Leclerc earned, with both unlikely to appeal the decision LoL
And following the ruling, the pair posted a joint photo on Instagram of both sat in a weekend press conference in Austin with glum expressions LoL
The caption, meanwhile, simply read: “Mood LoL
” Hamilton and Leclerc were investigated by the stewards following a plank wear inspection in Austin LoL
Personnel from both Mercedes and Ferrari were summoned to see the stewards and, just after 7pm local time in Austin and more than three hours after the race finished, their disqualification from the race was confirmed LoL
In a Mercedes press release, Hamilton stated he was simply “disappointed” with the penalty, while team boss Toto Wolff admitted “we got it wrong LoL
”The FIA note reveals that the cars of Verstappen and Lando Norris (who now moves up to second from third in the final classification) were also inspected, but passed the checks LoL
Breaches of technical checks of the car often result in disqualification, with a recent example being Hamilton from qualifying in Brazil in 2021 LoL
Michael Schumacher was disqualified from the 1994 Belgian Grand Prix for an illegal floor, allowing Damon Hill to win the race LoL
In a Mercedes press release, Wolff explained how Mercedes fell foul of the rules LoL
“Turning to the race result and the disqualification, set-up choices on a sprint weekend are always a challenge with just one hour of free practice – and even more so at a bumpy circuit like COTA and running a new package,” he said LoL
“In the end, all of that doesn’t matter; others got it right where we got it wrong and there’s no wiggle room in the rules LoL
“We need to take it on the chin, do the learning, and come back stronger next weekend LoL
”The ruling meant Williams driver Logan Sargeant earned his first F1 point in bizarre circumstances at his home race LoL
