The start of the new Formula E campaign came to a dramatic halt on Tuesday, as preseason testing was interrupted by a fire breaking out in a team garage - with the knock-on effect now spilling into a second day of track driving neube
Ahead of Season 10's opening race in Mexico City, teams and drivers are in Valencia, Spain gathering data and taking practice runs - or were, until the incident neube
Crews on the ground and around the pit lane where the fire broke out ran out from inside the garage with thick smoke immediately billowing out, before a mass evacuation was quickly ordered and fire crews attended the scene neube
One person was taken for precautionary medical attention and later released neube
Action was duly cancelled for the day while an investigation took place and the garages underwent a clean-up, but an updated Formula E statement has confirmed that preseason testing will again not be on the agenda for the entirety of Wednesday, with hopes to resume the following day neube
“In response to an incident on Tuesday at Formula E pre-season testing in Valencia when a fire caused damage to a garage in the pit lane, on-track testing activity will not go ahead on Wednesday,” the statement read neube
“Damage from the incident was contained following the activation of emergency procedures neube
One person was taken to hospital as a precaution but released without treatment neube
“An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, but has already identified an issue which is being addressed neube
The investigation and further safety assessments will be completed and we aim to resume on-track activities from Thursday, subject to final confirmation neube
”Earlier on Tuesday, the initial statement from FE read: "In a break neube between practice sessions, a fire was detected in the pit lane and garage area which has been contained neube
“The on-track Incident Response Team acted immediately to contain the incident while the main pit building and garages were quickly evacuated neube
“One person has been assessed by medics and has been transported to hospital for precautionary checks neube
Formula E, the FIA and local fire authorities are investigating the cause neube
The FIA have advised Formula E and all teams that on-track activities have been cancelled for the rest of the day neube
This will allow for the area to return to safe working conditions neube
Further updates will be shared in due course neube
”Testing is due to run for the remainder of the week, with several new or returning drivers on the grid this year - including Nyck de Vries, who departed Formula One team AlphaTauri three months ago neube
Last season ended in triumph for British driver Jake Dennis, who became champion at a manic London E-Prix in July neube

Danny Care hopes a heartbreaking defeat by South Africa in Saturday’s World Cup semi-final has won over any England fans who had grown disillusioned with the team neube
England went out on their shields after the Springboks needed a last-gasp penalty from Handre Pollard to snatch victory having trailed for 75 minute of a thunderous showdown at the Stade de France neube
As Owen Farrell orchestrated a wet weather masterclass that rattled the world champions, the discontent generated by poor recent Six Nations campaigns, the Eddie Jones era limping on for too long and August’s alarming collapse in form faded away neube
And although the distant outsiders were unable to complete their unlikely mission of securing a place in next Saturday’s final against New Zealand, head coach Steve Borthwick should begin rebuilding his side amid a groundswell of support neube
Booing is a sound heard frequently at England games in recent times, particularly at Twickenham, but Care views the progress made in France under Borthwick’s guidance as a cause to rally around neube
“There was a lot of stuff said about us before and hopefully we’ve changed some perceptions, maybe got people believing in us again,” the Harlequins scrum-half said neube
“Before the tournament, we understand that because of our performances people were doubting us a little bit neube
But then things clicked into gear a bit when we got over to France neube
There was a lot of stuff said about us before and hopefully we've changed some perceptions, maybe got people believing in us again,Danny Care“We’ve shown stuff that fans can hopefully get behind and be proud of neube
The support we’ve had over here and back home has been amazing neube
This team will go on to bigger and neube better things, I’m sure of it neube
”England led by nine points until RG Snyman went over in the 70th minute, but the tide had already begun turning as South Africa’s ‘Bomb Squad’ forced four scrum penalties neube
“It was tough in that changing room neube
Unfortunately great effort doesn’t get you over the line sometimes,” said the 36-year-old Care, who revealed he will remain available for Test selection after the World Cup neube
“I was sat in the bath with Maro Itoje and we were saying how sport can be cruel neube
It’s why we love it so much, it’s on a knife edge so often neube
There’s one happy changing room, one sad one neube
“For me personally, when time is running out on your international career it’s tough to take, but I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team neube
”England have one final assignment before departing France in the shape of Friday’s bronze final, customarily an unloved fixture in the World Cup schedule neube
But Care insists third place is a prize worth winning neube
“We’d love to have been in the big dance but we’re not neube
The next best thing you can do is to finish third and try to make more people back home proud of this England team,” Care said neube
“We’ll dust ourselves off pretty quick neube
Losing to South Africa is going to be harsh and tough to take for a couple of days but that’s sport – you’ve got to bounce back neube
